Incoloy A286 Coils

Incoloy Alloy® A286 is an iron-based superalloy useful for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance up to 1300˚F (704˚C) and for lower stress applications at higher temperatures. The mechanical properties of this alloy are developed by suitable solution annealing and precipitation hardening treatments. Alloy A286 is non-magnetic. This alloy has good oxidation resistance and is designed to maximize creep and stress rupture properties, with some reduction in strength. A-286 can attain high strength levels when aged after cold work, and has wide application as high temperature fasteners and springs.

Resistance to Corrosion and Oxidation

Type A286 alloy content is similar in chromium, nickel, and molybdenum to some of the austenitic stainless steels. Consequently, this alloy possesses a level of aqueous corrosion resistance comparable to that of the austenitic stainless steels. In elevated temperature service, the level of corrosion resistance to atmospheres such as those encountered in jet engine applications is excellent to at least 1300°F (704°C). Oxidation resistance is high for continuous service up to 1500°F (816°C) and intermittent service up to 1800°F (982°C).

Incoloy® Alloy A-286 is iron-nickel-chromium based austenitic iron based material that also includes molybdenum and titanium. The alloy is known for its good strength and oxidation resistance especially at temperatures up to 1300°F (700°C). Some of the other important properties of Alloy-A286 include:

  • Excellent fabrication characteristics
  • High mechanical properties due to age-hardenability
  • High ductility in notched sections
  • Good creep-rupture strength during extended high-temperature exposure
  • Can be produced by AOD reefing or vacuum induction melting
  • Good for moderate corrosion applications in aqueous solutions
